Learners Get Up-Close with Snakes
Using their natural curiosity and love of animals is a great way to teach children about nature conservation and career opportunities in Environmental Affairs. This is what the Mangaung Environmen¬tal Management unit aims to do through its Climate Change Awareness Campaign. The cam¬paign was launched on Tuesday, November 13 at Qib¬ing Secondary School in Wepener and the unit will be visiting schools across the city to engage with learners on the importance of nature conservation and various career options in this field.

Affordable Housing Options for Employees
Mangaung Metro invited various stakeholders to engage employees on affordable housing options in the city and the different government schemes that are there to subsidise their mortgage based on their salary brackets. This information session was held at Floreat Hall on Friday, November 16 and was attended by stakeholders such as FNB, Absa, Better Bond, SA Home Loans and Human Settlements.

Oldies’ Luncheon with the Council Speaker
Mangaung Metro Speaker of Council Cllr. Mxolisi Siyonzana brought Christmas early to more than 1500 elderly people from across Mangaung when he invited them to join him for lunch at the Dr. Petrus Molemela Outdoor Centre on Wednesday, November 28. This forms part of the Speaker’s ongoing community outreach programme which is set to connect with the people of Mangaung.

High turbidity at Welbedacht Dam
Residents of Mangaung Metro are hereby notified of the high turbidity at Welbedacht Dam as a result of the recent rainfall experienced on 7th December 2018 at Caledon River. The river and dam are full of sand and this affects operations at the water treatment works as raw water is too sandy and takes longer to purify.

MUNICIPAL FINANCE MANAGEMENT ACT (MFMA): PRELIMINARY MONTHLY FINANCIAL REPORT FOR THE PERIOD ENDED 30 NOVEMBER 2018 (MONTHLY BUDGET STATEMENT)
To comply with section 71 of the MFMA, by providing a monthly statement on the implementation of the budget and the financial state of affairs for the municipality to the Executive Mayor, as legislated. The strategic objective of this report is to ensure good governance, financial viability and optimal institutional transformation with capacity to execute its mandate.
Section 71 of the MFMA requires that:
The accounting officer of a municipality must by no later than 10 working days after the end of each month submit to the mayor of the municipality, and the relevant National and Provincial Treasury, a statement in the prescribed format on the state of the municipality’s budget reflecting certain details for that month and for the financial year up to the end of that month.
For the reporting period ending 30 November 2018, the ten-working day reporting period expires on the 14 December 2018. National Treasury have indicated that they wish to continue to directly monitor municipalities that have a significant impact on the South African economy. For this purpose, the required electronic reports were progressively lodged with the National Treasury. Material variances
will be briefly referred to in this report.

Mangaung is Reclaiming the City from Lawlessness & Road Safety Campaign Launched in Bloemfontein & Mangaung to Formulate Biodiversity Plan
The Environmental Management unit convened with officials from South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) and the Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA) to engage in discussions about developing a Biodiversity plan for the city. The workshop which was hosted on Wednesday, December 5 aimed at coming up with a plan that will identify priority areas for biodiversity conservation within Mangaung Metro.
